ALASTAIR HIBBERT

About

Alastair Hibbert is a mixed media artist, sculptor and painter, championing Cumbrian stone for the most part. Based in the Lake District, he trained in fine art at Kendal College before teaching himself the disciplines of stone and metal sculpture, and the windswept practice of painting landscapes en plein air.

His paintings climb outward from the canvas in layered, tactile strata, while his sculptures settle into smooth, honed forms carved from quartz, granite, marble and limestone. Together they trace a conversation between land and material — paintings informed by the natural shapes he encounters, sculptures echoing the geological drama that surrounds him.

He frames his canvases in reclaimed wood, a quiet nod to both sustainability and the beauty hidden in overlooked things. An inveterate wanderer, he has cycled solo across Europe and roamed mountain ranges and coastal fortresses, all of which seep into his work as invitations to see the world from fresh, adventurous angles.

Alastair creates to shift perspective — to let the viewer feel the landscape through eye and hand, and to carry home a spark of exploration.
